Bob Converse, Chief Inspector and Supervisor, has co-owned the Red Wing Aeroplane Co. with his son, Wes, since 1992. Bob’s considerable knowledge, with 56 years in the aviation industry, brings high standards and quality assurance to the shop.
Bob is
authorized to inspect general aviation aircraft pursuant to the regulations
as administered by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). He received
his Inspection Authorization (I/A) in 1990.His journey into the world of aviation started in 1948, when Bob was drafted into the United States Army Air Force, where he attended Aircraft Mechanic School in Wichita Falls, Texas.
His tour of duty in the early 1950’s ran the gamut, from an assignment to the 126th Fighter Bomber wing, Langley Air Force Base, Virginia to a reconnaissance squadron utilizing Douglas B-26 aircraft in Korea. In Texas, he was mechanic and flight engineer on B-50’s and B-47’s. In 1955, Bob was station in Japan, as flight engineer on black B050’s used for night observation flying.
As a civilian, Bob worked at the Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport, first for Braniff Airlines after completing mechanic training in Janesville, Wisconsin. He gained experience working on C-46’s, C-47’s, Constellation 649’s, 707’s, Lockheed Electra’s Convair 340’s and 440’s.
Bob spent 25 years at Western Airlines as mechanic, inspector and supervisor working on DC-6’s, Lockheed Electras, Boeing 737’s, 720’s and Douglas DC-10’s.
At Delta, Bob was supervisor and part-time instructor for systems and mechanics on MD-11’s, MD88’s, 757’s, 767’s, 737’s, 747’s, Lockheed 1011’s and British Airbus 300’s.
Bob is also a rated pilot with a commercial instrument rating.
